Icons
CARE’s standard global icons can be used ‘off the shelf’ by any CARE member and Country Office – without the need to hire an external designer. Icons have clean edges for a more modern look. They are available in .PNG files for digital and some print applications and .EPS vector files used for professional printing.

Colored Icons
Icons are only to be used in the following colors, plus white, which have been created for wide application.
Patterns
We have integrated a few geometric design elements into our branding to add additional interest and dimension to our brand. These are the only approved elements or patterns available for use at the moment. Do not create additional ones.
These graphic elements are approved for use mainly in 4 colors: Orange, Indigo, Yellow and White. They can be used in accent colors if that fits the situation.
RIPPLES - The ripples are a series of circles within each other, which can look like it’s creating a ripple effect. This asset is especially helpful when trying to convey the ripple effect that CARE’s work has in communities and around the world. The ripple can overlap other elements and be cut off the page for additional interest.
Ripples should maintain the same stroke width in relation to other ripples and slants within the same document.
You can increase or reduce the number of circles in the ripples, but do not otherwise alter the design.
SLANTS - The slants are an additional element that can be used in different formats. Inside a circle, inside a rectangle, or other geometric shapes. It can be used on the edge of pages or overlapping other elements.
Slants should always be at the same angle from the lower left to the upper right.
This implies an upward movement, rather than a downward movement.
Slants should maintain the same stroke width in relation to other ripples and slants within the same document.
ARROWS - The arrows are pre-made using the ripple to form the shape. These can be used as directional arrows, or to suggest an upward or positive movement, or a downward or negative movement. Use the colors on contrasting backgrounds where they are most visible.
Approved Color Backgrounds for patterns:
INDIGO - White, Orange, Yellow (background options)
ORANGE - White, Yellow, Indigo (background options)
YELLOW - White, Orange, Indigo (background options)
WHITE - Orange, Yellow, Indigo (background options)
*Due to the nature of these patterns, they require more finesse to edit. Please omit them if you're unable to use them within these guidelines, or reach out to Brandsupport for help.
Pattern Examples
Here are some sample applications to see how the Ripples and Slants are being integrated into designs.
Other considerations for the ripples and slants:
- When using them over photography, be careful to not cover up people’s faces.
- For added interest, have the elements overlap photos, color blocks, and be cropped off the page.
- Limit the amount of elements used on a page or document; two on a page together is probably the max.
- Mix the elements and the colors used to allow them to feel fresh and not like one thing repeated over and over.
