Standard language to describe CARE's work

CARE members may create customized boilerplates for their audiences; however, every CARE boilerplate must contain our website URL and all four of the following statements:

  • CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty.
  • CARE was founded in 1945.
  • CARE works in 121 countries.
  • CARE places special focus on working with girls and women.

Every CARE boilerplate should describe CARE’s work in a concise, factual manner. The content, length and tone of boilerplates can be modified for target audiences, but a boilerplate should always explain who we are and what we do. Below are several examples of approved CARE boilerplates. Please contact brandsupport@care.org if you need help creating a boilerplate.

Brand position statement: Short version

In 1945, a small group of Americans mobilized to create the world’s first CARE Package®. They knew that they could not stand on the sidelines while millions of people faced hunger in the wake of World War II. Within a few months, they had delivered their first shipment of 15,000 CARE Packages. Over the years, CARE delivered more than 100 million CARE Packages.

Today, CARE works in 121 countries, reaching 53 million people through 1,450 projects. We no longer deliver just physical CARE Packages, but we continue to be guided by the spirit of innovation, scale, and helping those most in need that animated our work in the beginning.

Our mission is to defeat poverty. We know that we cannot do this unless we achieve gender justice, so we have a real focus on women and girls. A snapshot of our work helps you see our reach and impact: We work with millions of smallholder farmers to increase their productivity and yield; we run the largest micro-savings program in the world, which has enabled 17.6 million people to save together and support one another in small business development; we are innovators in supporting maternal and child health; and we help refugees and people facing crisis in the immediate aftermath as well as over the long-term.

Some things that distinguish CARE:

  • We are global and have true scaled reach and impact, but we are deeply rooted in communities. 96% of our staff come from the communities where we serve.
  • We invest $9 out of every $10 directly in programs. Your investment not only meets immediate needs, but through an emphasis on innovation, measurement, and advocacy, CARE ensures that its solutions are lasting and spread across communities and nations.
  • CARE is a trusted organization with an extraordinary reputation for programmatic integrity, but CARE is also innovating and embracing creative new solutions, like impact investing and market-based approaches.

This iconic organization representing American generosity and humanitarian leadership has never been as important as it is right now.
